About Us - History and Vision

If you follow the black-top road down CR 214, past open potato fields and farmland on the corner of CR 214 & 13A, you’ll arrive at Molasses Junction.

The establishment has undergone numerous renovations, especially since it is over 65.

Its rustic charm was featured in the 2007 movie “Moving McAllister” starring Mila Kunis and Salma Hayek.

Molasses Junction was built by a local resident named Elizabeth Pursley and her husband in 1957. They named it after a giant molasses spill that happened during the Flagler Era.

Pursley was known for her Southern cooking and had a simple mission: “Know your customers and treat them like family.”

Widely considered a community cornerstone, Pursley helped raise many kids around the area.

David Doan, a local resident, purchased the store from Pursley in 1996, describing Molasses Junction as “a hidden treasure.” Doan ran the store admirably from 1996 until 2019 when local businesswoman Donna Sparks realized what a hidden treasure it was. She began negotiating with Doan to purchase Molasses Junction, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Donna Sparks, owner of St Augustine’s most highly regarded fence company, was thrilled at the idea of owning the store with its rich history and nostalgic charm. Donna has made many improvements and plans to make many more while keeping in the tradition of the previous owners’ ideal of “Know your customers and treat them like family.”
